About the movie :

Raees is a 2017 Indian Hindi-language action film. The movie was directed by Rahul Dholakia and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Excel Entertainment. Shah Rukh Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mahira Khan. Raees is said to be based on the criminal Abdul Latif’s life.

About Releasing the movie :

The film was released in theater on 25 January 2017 during India’s Republic Day. It received overall positive reviews from the critics, who appreciated the performances of Khan and Siddiqui, production design, cinematography and visual effects, and was a huge success at the box office,becoming the 6th highest-grossing Hindi film of 2017.

Raees was also the most pirated Hindi film of 2017 but it started trending in 2023 in Netflix after 6 years of release. The film’s soundtrack has also received over 160 crore streams on YouTube.

Award of this movie :

The film received five nominations at the 63rd Filmfare Awards, including Best Actor for Khan.
The film is set in the early 80’s and 90’s in Gujarat.

Story of the movie :

The fictitious story of a man who builds an empire in the state of Gujarat, the only state that still follows prohibition. It’s a story about his rise and his relationships, which help him become the single most powerful man in the state.
The movie was Inspired by the true story of liquor don, Abdul Latif, who ruled Gujarat and even few parts of India, “Raees” tells the rags-to-rich tale of Raees Alam. who faces the heat at the peak of his supremacy by a tough cop.
The film kicks off in 1970 showing how a small boy becomes a local bootlegger into full grown small time smuggler, Shah Rukh, who steals the scene with his entry and uses his tactics to setup his own independent liquor business
