How to open demat and trading account Online with Zerodha?

Zerodha offers online digital account opening facilities to its customers.

Steps to open Zerodha account online

  1. Visit the Zerodha Click here) website Or Kite App (Click here) and follow the below steps
  2. Click on the Sign up Now button.
  3. Enter your mobile number and click on Continue.
  4. Enter the 6-digit OTP received on your mobile number. Click on Confirm.
  5. Verify your email id by entering 6 digits OTP received on your email id.
  6. Enter your PAN No. and Date of Birth. Click on accept and Continue.
  7. Pay the account opening fees using UPI or through Net banking. (Rs. 400,600)
  8. Sign in to your Digilocker account to share your Aadhar details with Zerodha.
  9. Allow Zerodha to access your Aadhar details.
  10. Enter your bank account details and background information.
  11. Read all the instructions and tick all the checkboxes and Continue.
  12. Write the displayed OTP on a piece of paper and hold it in front of a camera to complete the online In-Person verification (IPV).
  13. Upload all the required documents like PAN, Aadhar card, canceled cheque, signature photo proof, and Income proof (mandatory only for derivatives trading)
  14. Complete E-sign with Aadhar.
  15. Verify your Email ID by entering your security code.
  16. Review the account opening form and click on Sign Now.
  17. Enter your Aadhar No. and the OTP and click on Submit to complete the online account opening process.

How to open demat and trading account Offline with Zerodha?

Zerodha offers offline account opening facilities to its customers.

How to open a Zerodha account offline?

To open a resident individual account offline, submit the following documents:

  1. Equity trading and demat account form ( PDF ). Follow these instructions (PDF) to fill the form.
  2. A passport size photograph to be affixed and signed across.
  3. Self-attested PAN copy.
  4. Self-attested address proof. Any one of the following documents: Driving licence, voter ID, passport, Aadhaar card or bank statement.
  5. Income proof is required to enable F&O. Any one of the following documents: Latest salary slip, ITR, Form 16, or 6-month bank statement.
  6. Bank proof. Any one of the following documents: Personalised cancelled cheque with the name printed on it or bank statement or bank passbook copy with the bank account number, MICR and IFSC code visible.
  7. Power of Attorney, optional ( PDF ). The POA allows the broker to debit these shares from the demat account. See, What is Power of Attorney (POA), and why is it needed? to read more. To open a commodity account, download the account opening form ( PDF ). Follow these instructions ( DOC ) to fill the form.

Did you know? If the account holder is a senior citizen and cannot sign the forms, a medical certificate and a thumb impression of the account holder on a sheet of paper must be sent along with the other documents.

The account opening charges are as follows:

Equity trading and demat account₹400
Equity trading, demat and commodity account₹600
fees

To pay the account opening charges, write a cheque in favour of Zerodha Broking Ltd.

Once the documents are ready, courier them to:

The account will be opened within 48 working hours of receiving the forms if all the documents are in order.

What documents are required to open an account online?

To open a resident individual account online, the following are required:

  1. A copy of your PAN card.
  2. Aadhaar (open your account via the offline route if you don’t want to use the Aadhaar details.
  3. A mobile number linked to Aadhaar (mandatory, to receive an OTP and esign the account opening form.)¹
  4. Proof of bank account in your name.²
    For bank account verification, enter the account details, i.e. account number and IFSC, Zerodha will deposit an amount between ( ₹ 0.01 to ₹ 1) to the bank account or, validate by entering a valid UPI Virtual Payment Address (VPA) and proceed. If the validation using these two modes fail, upload proof of bank account² .
  5. A scanned copy of your signature. The signature must be with ballpoint or ink pens. Markers or sketch pens are not allowed.
  6. Income proof³ (optional).

Notes

1* To link the mobile number to  Aadhaar, visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. The nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra can be found by visiting appointments.uidai.gov.in/(X(1)S. The mobile number linked to your Aadhaar can be seen by visiting myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/verify-email-mobile.
If there is an alternate mobile number that is linked to the Aadhaar, use the same to receive an OTP and complete the account opening process.

2* Cancelled cheque, bank statement, the front page of the passbook (any one). The bank proof should include your name, bank logo/sign/stamp, account number, IFSC and MICR code. If the cheque is not personalized, the bank statement should have both the IFSC and MICR code printed.

3* Submit any one of the following if you wish to trade in F&O:

  • Bank statement for the last six months with an average balance of more than ₹10,000. (Statement must be in the name of the applicant.)
  • The latest salary slip with gross monthly income exceeding ₹15,000.
  • ITR acknowledgement with gross annual income exceeding ₹1,20,000.
  • Form 16 with gross annual income exceeding ₹1,20,000.
  • Certificate of net worth more than ₹10,00,000.
  • Statement of demat holdings with holdings value exceeding ₹10,000.

What documents do I require to open an account offline with Zerodha?

The documents required to open an account offline for a resident individual are listed below:
