You can cancel your train ticket through Google Pay at any time after booking as long as the train’s chart hasn’t already been prepared.

Cancellation penaltiesmay increase the closer you cancel to the charting time. Train charts are generally prepared about 4 hours before the train’s scheduled departure. If you still want to cancel your ticket after the chart is prepared, file a ticket deposit receipt(TDR).

To cancel a train ticket for all or some passengers, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Pay app.
  2. In the Business section, tap the Trains chat head. You can also search for ‘trains’ under the New section.
  3. In your transaction history, select the ticket that you want to cancel.
  4. Tap View details.
  5. At the bottom of the details, tap Cancel ticket.
    • If the ticket is for one passenger, a confirmation screen appears.
    • If the ticket is for more than one passenger, select which passenger to cancel. After selecting the cancelled passenger, a confirmation screen appears.
  6. To confirm your cancellation, tap Yes, proceed.

After confirming your cancellation, your request is reviewed. If your cancellation is approved, a cancellation notice appears in your train transaction history with the refund amount and a summary of your cancellation. To make sure that your cancellation can be approved, check the IRCTC Terms & Conditions and cancellation procedure.

Cancellation exceptions

There are some instances when you cannot cancel your train ticket. Here are some examples:

  • The chart for this train has been prepared. After the chart is prepared, you can still file a TDR.
  • The departure time for this train has passed.
  • The train has been cancelled, so your ticket is no longer valid. If your train is cancelled, you’ll automatically receive a refund.

About refunds?

Refunds are automatically issued in the event that a train is cancelled. Cancellation fees do not apply to these types of refunds.

In certain cases, such as cancelling your ticket after a chart is prepared, you may need to manually request a refund. Refunds are claimed through a ticket deposit receipt (TDR) from IRCTC. The refund process generally takes at least 60 days to complete, and may include a cancellation fee. For more information, check the IRCTC Terms & Conditions and cancellation procedure.

To file a refund, contact Google Pay support to request support on facilitating a TDR from IRCTC.
