Hero Xtreme 125R
The Hero Xtreme 125R price is Rs 95,000 for the IBS variant (Hero’s term for Combined Braking System, CBS). The Xtreme 125R ABS variant price is Rs 99,500 (both ex-showroom Delhi). The latter is the best Xtreme 125R variant to buy as it offers the safety of a single-channel ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), which prevents the front wheel from locking up while hard braking. We’d recommend this over the cheapest Xtreme 125 variants.
With 11.4PS of power and 10.5Nm of torque, the Hero Xtreme 125R is one of the most powerful bikes in its segment. It has a 0-60kmph pickup time of 6.28 seconds, which is really good for a 125cc bike. You can easily use 3rd gear for most of the city rides, and it accelerates from 30kmph to 70kmph in 3rd gear in 7.2 seconds. This means it has enough grunt to overtake easily in the city.
In our real-world mileage test, the Xtreme 125R returned 81.53kmpl in the city and 61.68kmpl on the highway. These mileage figures are absolutely excellent considering the 10-litre fuel tank should ensure at least around 600km range.
The Xtreme 125R is a fantastic bike for college students who are looking to buy a bike for around Rs 1 lakh. It’s got great styling that will appeal to the youth, and also has a decent list of useful features, comfortable yet slightly sporty riding posture, and more importantly, offers excellent mileage. It is also quick enough for city riding, and the occasional breakfast rides. The presence of a single-channel ABS ensures safety, particularly on wet roads. Even the split seat setup has enough room for both the rider and the passenger for daily commutes.
The Hero Xtreme 125R comes with an all-LED lighting, including a hazard lamp feature. Its full-LCD instrument cluster may not have smartphone connectivity but has all the necessary information including the speedometer, fuel gauge, clock, real-time mileage indicator, dual tripmeters, odometer, and a gear position indicator apart from the tell-tale lights. The console is well laid-out and is easy to read too. The ABS variant, as the name suggests, comes with the safety of a single-channel ABS. Other than these, the bike also comes with tubeless tyres, and a rear disc brake for the ABS variant. The base CBS variant comes with a drum brake at the rear.
The Hero Xtreme 125R best colour is the Firestorm Red in our opinion. The combination of red, black and silver on the bodywork really brings out the sporty design elements of the bike. For those who want a more subtle look can go for the Stallion Black colour.
The Xtreme 125 offers better performance than other 125cc commuter bikes. It can comfortably cruise at around 70-80kmph, which is enough for most of the Indian roads. It can also reach around 100kmph if pushed. So, if your daily ride involves a bit of highways, the Xtreme 125R can handle it without any stress. It is not a touring bike in particular, but it doesn’t complain if you end up on long, open roads every now and then.
The Hero Xtreme 125R is worth buying as it handles well, has enough power for city as well as occasional highway riding, and also looks pretty good in terms of design. More importantly, it is fairly affordable while offering the safety of ABS, which 125cc bikes (except for the much more expensive KTM 125 Duke) don’t get.
The best Hero Xtreme 125R alternatives in India are the TVS Raider 125 and the Honda SP 125. The TVS Raider is as good as the Xtreme in terms of handling, performance and even mileage. It may not have ABS but compensates with a slightly better feature-list. While the SP 125 may not be as exciting to ride or feature packed as the Xtreme 125R or the Raider 125, where it shines is its trademark Honda reliability.
