Twitter Inc. has agreed to be acquired by billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Austin-based automaker Tesla, in a deal worth about $44 billion, the social media platform said Monday.
Twitter stockholders will receive $54.20 per share of common stock that they own upon closing of the deal. The purchase price is a 38% premium to Twitter’s closing stock price on April 1, which was the last trading day before Musk disclosed his 9% stake in Twitter.
